India breaks the silence : Olympics 2008

India makes a new Era from Beijing Olympic Games 2008. Normally, India’s performance in the Olympics are very poor. Even this time, it’s not that good. But, India make a new start. If we see the Indian Participation in Olympic Games, we notice India won Gold in Hockey event for 8 times, once silver and twice bronz. It was Indian Golden Age. Besides that India could win just a single siver in Shooting and three bronz in Tennis, Wrestling and Weight-lifting. That means, besides hockey India never has won a Gold in any event, however India has been participating since AD 1900. It reflects a depressive picture.

This time in Beijing Olympic Games 2008, Abhinav Bindra, 25, won a Gold in 10 meter Air rifle shooting event. He has began a new chapter in Indian Medal list, that is Gold for a sport other than hockey. It is the first individual Gold for India too.

Actually, I was seeking whether the south asian countries won any medal in the Olympics. But to my disappointment, none was performing good in the biggest sport event of the world. Abhinav’s Gold was not only first Gold to Indai but to the whole South Asia in this Sport Festival.
