Ani Choying Drolma : Phoolko Ankhama

I was searching in Youtube about some really great Nepali songs of the present time and finally got one. The song was last year on the top of Nepali Chart for months.

The present song is from a then-unknown nun. Who sang this song of peace and personal diversity and she has become now a big star overnight, the single star of its own kind. She is known for her slow and tranquilising songs and also for the divine aroma in her singing. Her sweet low metered singing with just a couple of instruments resembles to Norah Jones. She is popular not only in Nepal but also in many countries in Europe and Americas. She has her own site in English and German too.

Ani was born in June 4, 1971 in Kathmandu, Nepal to Tibeten Exiles. She joined the Nagi Gompa (nunnery) at the age of 12. She trained and chanted the Buddhist religious Mantras there.

She was first noticed when Steve Tibbetts, a noted American guitarist, visited her nunnery. He was impressed by her. With his collaboration, Ani recorded a non commercial Album Cho that made her acquainted to many and got some positive response. She brought a new album named Selwa again with the collaboration of Tibbetts that came to be far considered among listners. But the biggest breakthrough was Phulko Ankhama from Moments of Bliss. Moments of Bliss had nine songs. Phulko Ankhama turned her to one of the famous emerging voice in Nepalese Music Industry and simultaneously she got the global fame too.

According to her she sings of her dreams, the dream to uplift the situation of the plight of nuns and nunnery. She donates large amount of money collected from her concerts worldwide to ground a school for nuns. Now, the school Arya Tara is almost finished.
